Khan and Singh

So the Committee of Privileges have called Raeesah Khan back. And even got her to undergo an psychiatric assessment. This was the news report:
Raeesah Khan stands by her evidence; psychiatrist says she did not have any disorder that would 'predispose' her to lying: COP report
So Khan had said that the WP leadership had advised her to continue to lie. Pritam Singh, WP sec-gen, and Leader of the Opposition had testified that she was not advised to continue to lie, and that she suffers from "disassociation", and would say things without thinking. Singh also said that he told Khan to take responsibility and ownership of the issue. Which he claims was his advice to her to tell the truth.

This is a "he said-she said" situation. I can see those who want to believe the WP, have decided that her testimony can't be trusted. And those that have it in for WP, is feeling sympathy for her.

Khan is young for an MP. And if her sexual assault claim is true, she is also a victim. As a young MP/Politician, she rightly would be depending on the more experienced members of her party to give her the right advice and proper guidance.

So let me be generous and assume that she sought guidance, and the WP leadership gave her good and proper advice, but there was a miscommunication (I'm being generous) and she misunderstood their guidance and advice as: "Continue to lie". When what they meant (according to the leaders' testimony) was: "do what you have to (i.e. talk to your parents first) and tell the truth."

So on 4 Oct when Shanmugam questioned Khan, she continued the lie (because, misunderstanding).
If that was the case, if Pritam saw her continuing the lie in the face of Shanmugam's questioning, why could he NOT make a statement along the lines of:

1) We understand that this is a matter that the police and the minister would like clarity

2) We understand that Ms Khan's inability to provide clarity is frustrating to this house.

3) It has come to our knowledge that Ms Khan (sorry, the proper address should be "the Honorary Member of Sengkang", not Ms Khan, but I'm just going for clarity and not parliamentary procedures) has some personal and sensitive considerations before providing clarity to this house.

4) We therefore seek the house's indulgence and patience as Ms Khan first resolves her personal issues, and we promise she will subsequently provide clarity and answers to all the questions Minister and the SPF might have.

It would have been a simple holding statement. It would stop Khan from continuing to lie (which is NOT what the WP leadership wanted - according to their testimony). It would not have revealed Khan's secret. it would not have been an admission of a lie.

Why didn't Pritam do this?

Three possible answers:
1) he's stupid.
2) that was not his intent
3) He was happy to let Khan carry the ball.

Or maybe there is another answer?

Anyway, one thing is true: Khan has disassociation. She has disassociated herself from the WP.
