Vexation without representation - or why we should be allowed to vote in US elections.

When the US revolted against the British and fought for their independence, one of their rally calls was "No taxation, without representation". Briefly, as colonies of the British Empire, the colonists were required to pay taxes to the British, but they were not represented in the British Parliament.

The US colonists were upset that the British could make decisions and policies that affected the colonies, and that they had no say (no representation) to protect their interests. Hence the revolt.

Today, the US is the sole superpower in the world (China is decades away (if ever) from challenging the US as a superpower. India can barely organise the Commonwealth Games). The US dollar though weakened is still the reserve currency for a lot of countries. The United Nations is situated in the US. The internet was basically a US Dept of Defence development (that's why there's no website with ".usa"). Hollywood culture dominates and has invaded most of the world, together with MacDonalds, Coke, Apple, Windows, and Starbucks.

When the US sneezes, the rest of the world has to wipe their face and many catch a cold. And we say, "bless you" anyway.

[Note: this was written, probably 10 years or more ago in my Facebook "Notes". I am "rescuing" these old notes because the "notes" feature is not indexed and accessible in Facebook anymore. These are just "revealed" to me as "memories" (Facebook feature). ]

The sub-prime loans debacle was made in the USA, but caused bankruptcies across the world, not just in the US.

The World Trade Centre gets attacked, everybody watches, and everybody knows 9-11.

When the US wants to go to war, their unwilling allies get renamed the "coalition of the willing".

In short, US policies affect the whole world.

More importantly, bad US policies adversely affect the world. Things like not regulating their financial institutions enough after all this time after the financial crisis.

Things like a gridlocked govt, an obstructionist opposition that blocks any attempts to progress.

It is vexing and vexatious to be subject to the incompetent partisanship of the fractious govt of the sole superpower that can make bad policies that affect billions of people around the world.

It is vexation without representation!

I say, "No vexation, without representation!"

I say, all countries should be allowed a voice in the House of Representative, and in the US Senate. Perhaps this can be based on how much trade each country does with the US. We have to protect our commercial interests, as well as ensure that the US takes a global view of their policy impact.

Prepare for REVOLUTION!

Oh wait. Those people have GUNS!

Now I know the real reason they have their infamous Second Amendment right to keep and arm bears. So they can keep doing the stupid things they have been doing, their way.

If we want a revolution, we're going to have to do it the American way. First, we get guns...

(I said guns! Not sabres!)

[The above was written BEFORE Trump was POTUS. Probably sometime in the last term of Obama, based on the events referenced. If this fantasy had been implemented BEFORE the 2016 Presidential Election, Trump would never have been elected. Because now, POTUS would be elected with representatives from the EU, NAFTA, ASEAN (maybe), Australia, Japan, and maybe China. As it is, only Russia was "represented" in 2016. :-) ]
